Groves man obtained his beloved Mustang in 1989 and has traced his car's origin to the Washington, D.C. area. Air conditioning was added in 1970 and that owner kept the car until the mid-1980s. From there a Beaumont man had the car for about a year then it was sold to a doctor who kept it for four years and then, finally, Page got the car. It has since been fully restored and Page even has the original factory papers - which he promptly laminated.
The muscle car even brings couples closer with its mystique, just ask Barbara and Bob Davenport.
The Davenports, of Port Neches, are what could be called the ultimate Mustang fanatics.
"We've liked them since 1964. The shape of them - there's just something about a Mustang," Bob Davenport said. "Then when you see them come and go on the road, you just have to watch them."
Bob Davenport 's love of the Mustang began when he was stationed in Hawaii and the first Mustangs hit the road.
"I knew I wanted to buy one when I got back to the states," Davenport said in a previous interview.
He held true to his word and bought a 1965 baby blue Ford Mustang.
One of wife Barbara's cars won so many competitions, it had to be retired. Barbara's 1987 Mustang GT, which she used as a daily driver, won more than 20 trophies at local, regional and national Mustang shows. The car was retired in 1991 at the MCA Grand National in Kingsport, Tenn. Her story was featured in the February 1992 edition of the Mustang Times, a national magazine of Mustang enthusiasts.
Bob 's car, a 1997 Mustang Cobra is strictly a show car and has very little mileage. He has his eye on the upcoming Mustang Shelby 2006 version.
